Our School

Central Montessori Academy is an independent, nonprofit Montessori school for children from preschool through the sixth grade in the northwest suburbs of Greater Cincinnati.

What makes us special?

At CMA, we provide an educational experience rooted in the authentic Montessori Philosophy and Pedagogy, which features:

  • Rich and dynamic hands-on learning experiences
  • A warm and nurturing environment with a professional and well-trained, experienced faculty
  • Home-like learning environments
  • Located on five acres of land that includes natural play areas and gardens that the children assist in caring for, promoting responsibility and independence
  • An innovative learning environment that fosters deeper thought and stimulates questioning and student-led research
  • Opportunities for parent involvement

Education for Life

CMA has created a nurturing environment where every child is respected as an individual and valued as part of the community. Our students are encouraged to be independent, self-motivated, and responsible as they discover who they are and who they want to become. At the same time, they are encouraged to be mindful of others in their community.

Beginning in the preschool years, CMA students observe and reflect the Montessori philosophy of grace, courtesy, and respect to others. As they move through their elementary years, they are encouraged to think about their role within their community and to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills that benefit the larger community, and that reflect compassion, empathy, and a commitment to peace and justice in their world.

Diverse Community

At Central Montessori Academy, we value diversity. We draw students from many cultures and backgrounds—and this fosters a population that serves as a microcosm of the children’s larger society.

We encourage our families and friends to share their histories and traditions. For example, teachers and parents have given presentations on diverse cross-cultural events such as Diwali, the Chinese New Year, The African Harvest Festival, and many more.

Cincinnati Montessori Community Leader

Central Montessori Academy plays an important role within the Cincinnati Montessori community. Over the past couple of decades, we have produced many members of the Cincinnati Montessori Society Board. Among those is a former President of the Cincinnati Montessori Society, as well as the current Vice President for the regional organization.

Central Montessori Academy is a member of the Ohio Association of Independent schools, the American Montessori Society, the Cincinnati Montessori Society, and the International Montessori Council. Currently, the school is working towards achieving accreditation with the American Montessori Society and with the Independent Schools Association of the Central States.

Central Montessori Academy also maintains close relationships with institutions of higher education in the Cincinnati area. Primarily, our relationship with Xavier University allows us to serve as an internship site for pre-service teachers and to collaborate with university stakeholders in considering best practices for teacher education and professional development. Additionally, we maintain relationships with the Greater Cincinnati Center for Montessori Education/Crescent Ridge Academy and the College of Mount St. Joseph.

Central Montessori Academy’s Mission Statement

As members of a community of children, parents and staff, rooted in the Montessori philosophy, our students will develop into self-motivated, self-disciplined, active, independent learners possessing positive values to last a lifetime.
